Our minds are constantly going.
In Reaching Higher for our Positive Life Choices session, we share the famous quote:
“Watch Your Thoughts,
They Become Words,
Watch Your Words,
They Become Actions,
Watch your Actions,
They become Habits,
Watch your Habits,
They become Character,
Watch your Character,
For it Becomes Your Destiny.”
It all starts with our thoughts. Our thoughts influence our words and choices which leads to
what action we will take. Over time, we have built a habit, either good or bad. Therefore, the
choices we make each day are the ones that shape our future.
It’s the small choices, the everyday choices that can have the greatest power. Getting the right
amount of sleep, keeping a positive attitude, staying active, drinking enough water, eating
healthy and how we invest our time each day are the ones that immediately come to mind.
Creating self-awareness by observing our thoughts is key. Taking time each day to pause and
stay present helps us to identify those thoughts. They can be positive or negative as they pass
through. Those negative or unwanted thoughts can weigh us down and take us away from the
present moment. In those times, I tell myself “Not Helpful” and then move on. Easier said than
done, however, having that awareness helps to not have the negative self-talk which could make us feel less confident, doubt ourselves and prevent us from taking positive action.
Each week in Reaching Higher, we give the students a Leadership Challenge. For the session on
Positive Life Choices, it is to take their positive life choice that they have identified in class and
put it into action. What action will they take to create their positive life choice?
Let’s make that our mission for all of us this week, to look at a positive life choice that we can
make that will enhance our future and then take ACTION!
